Does Betterment Accept Checks?
Betterment does not accept personal checks for deposits or withdrawals in most cases. Additionally, cashier’s checks are not accepted. However, there are exceptions for specific account types.

Checking Accounts
- You can deposit checks into your Betterment Checking account using Mobile Check Deposit if you qualify. Learn how to qualify for Mobile Check Deposit and how to deposit checks into Checking.

401(k) and IRA Rollovers
- For rollovers, your current provider may send a rollover check directly to Betterment or you (the account owner). If the check is sent to you, you can mail it to Betterment for processing. Learn more about rollover check mailing instructions.
Important Notes About Mailed Checks
- If a check is mailed to Betterment’s office for deposit and does not meet the above criteria, the check will be securely destroyed.
- Cashier’s checks are not accepted for deposits into Betterment accounts.
Preferred Deposit Method
For most accounts, ACH transfers are the preferred method to move money to and from Betterment. ACH is fast, secure, and cost-effective.
