How do I report my IRA contributions?

How do I report my IRA contributions?

IRA contributions must be self-reported when filing your taxes. This means you are responsible for including the correct contribution amount on your tax return.

To ensure you report the right amount, follow these steps to check your IRA contributions in your Betterment account.

How to find your IRA contribution amount before filing

On a web browser:

  1. Select your IRA from the left-hand menu (it may be listed as "Retirement Account" if you have a Tax-Coordinated Portfolio).
  2. On the Overview page, locate the "IRA Contributions" section.
    • This section displays contributions for 2025 and 2024.

In the mobile app:

  1. From the Home page, select your IRA (it may be listed as "Retirement Account" if you have a Tax-Coordinated Portfolio).
  2. On the Overview page, locate the "IRA Contributions" section.
    • This section displays contributions for 2025 and 2024.

Will I receive a tax form for my contributions?

If you made annual or rollover contributions to your Betterment IRA in 2024, you will receive Form 5498 by May 31, 2025.

  • Form 5498 is for your records only and is generated after the tax filing deadline.
  • Betterment reports this information to the IRS, so you do not need to submit the form when filing your taxes.
  • Direct transfers into your IRA are not included on Form 5498, per IRS rules.
