Does Betterment Support Wire Transfers?
Yes, Betterment supports wire transfers for deposits into Taxable Investing, IRA, and Cash Reserve accounts. However, we do not support outbound wire transfers or international wire transfers.
How to Generate Wire Transfer Instructions
To deposit funds into your Betterment account via wire transfer:
- Log in to Betterment using a web browser.
- Navigate to the "Transfers" section from the left-hand menu.
- In the "Other ways to transfer" section, select "Wire transfer" to generate your wire instructions.
Key Details About Wire Transfers
- Same Name Requirement: The wire transfer must come from a bank account registered in the same name as your Betterment account.
- No Rollovers: Wire transfers cannot be used for rollovers or transfers from retirement accounts (e.g., IRAs, 401(k)s). Use ACH transfers or direct rollover methods instead.
- No Fees from Betterment: Betterment does not charge a fee for incoming wire transfers. However, your bank may charge a fee for sending a wire transfer. Check with your bank to confirm their fees.
- Processing Time: Wire transfers are typically processed within 1–2 business days.
- Note: While wire transfers are often faster than ACH, there is no guarantee that funds will be deposited or invested at Betterment on the same day they are sent.
